In the Interest of Evening Things Out

I read this quote this morning and began thinking about experiences that push us forward, or stretch parts of us that have, for whatever reason, been atrophied. Enjoy:

“We do not grow absolutely, chronologically. We grow sometimes in one dimension, and not in another; unevenly. We grow partially. We are relative. We are mature in one realm, childish in another. The past, present, and future mingle and pull us backward, forward, or fix us in the present. We are made up of layers, cells, constellations.”

  1. lovely quote. clay was mentioning to me how he refers to the birthmarks on his left arm as the big dipper. we, for sure, are made up of constellations. xoxo

  2. sigh….so i enjoyed that quote…and i started writing a poem in response to it…but it was going nowhere…so i wrote one about zombies…
then i went back to the one about the quote, and the idea of leaving the country…and still it went no where….

then i erased a bunch, and spoke the rest into my speech recognition software….. it now reads as follows; consider this your official vacation poem, Jessica:

    Legal immigration
    Why are you going crazy?
    Oregon.

  3. I enjoy it more when you talk about dirty feet :o)
